EDUCATION NEWS

  • A bill in the Georgia General Assembly will require all public schools to install weapons detectors at main entry points by July 2027 to strengthen safety; lawmakers passed the measure in committee while discussing cost concerns for both elementary and higher grade schools.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Following a unanimous subcommittee vote, Georgia lawmakers advanced House Bill 1009 that will extend the bell-to-bell cellphone ban from K-8 to high schools by fall 2027—supported by 71% of parents in a recent Emory University survey.  FOX 5 Atlanta
  • State lawmakers are focusing on proposed school safety bills this season to improve security in local schools. The measures, discussed in the Legislature, could lead to stronger protections for students and educators.  FOX 5 Atlanta

HEALTH NEWS

  • Madras Chettinaad on State Bridge Road scored 31 on Jan. 28 after a routine inspection revealed food safety issues (no manager was present during early reports), while Ichiban Steak and Sushi improved to 91 and Polanco in Sandy Springs earned a perfect 100 with the Golden Spatula award.  Atlanta News First
