- ➤ UPS from Sandy Springs is set to lay off 20,000 workers and close 73 facilities—prompting labor leaders and economists to worry about the impact on metro Atlanta's economy. FOX 5 Atlanta
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The seasonal burn ban is in effect from May 1 through September and covers metro Atlanta and most of North Georgia. Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz said the ban helps protect air quality because burning yard debris releases pollutants—chemicals that with heat and sunlight form harmful ground-level ozone. WSB-TV
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Georgia taxpayers had until midnight on May 1 to file their returns after an extension was granted due to Hurricane Helene, and those who missed the deadline needed to request an extension to avoid penalties. The extension allows affected filers until Oct. 15 to complete their submissions using IRS Form 4868—important steps for preventing future fines. FOX 5 Atlanta

- ➤ NetChoice filed a lawsuit in federal court in Atlanta on Thursday against Georgia's law that will require parental consent for kids to use social media starting July 1—state officials said they will defend the law to help keep children safe while NetChoice argues it breaks free speech and due process.
