  • A new Buc-ee’s is set to open soon in Georgia—outside the metro Atlanta area—after an announcement on May 9th. Residents in Alpharetta may need to drive to reach the new store when it opens.  Atlanta News First

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved $6.4 million on May 7 for the Sheriff’s Office to hire, retain and pay overtime for detention staff at jail facilities, including an Alpharetta annex. The extra funding comes amid a federal consent decree and persistent staffing challenges — measures that will be reviewed quarterly — to help restore safe and humane conditions in the jails.  Appen Media
  • Gov. Kemp signed a $37.7 billion budget for fiscal 2026 that focuses on education, public safety and mental health + it directs millions from federal funds to child care, community mental health services and education.  Atlanta News First

  • More than 500 guests attended the third annual Down and Derby fundraiser on May 3 at Chukkar Farms in Milton to support Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta's therapeutic play space, The Zone.
