BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mercedes-Benz announced that Atlanta will become its North American headquarters and that up to 500 jobs will move to its Sandy Springs facility+ the company will also invest in a new research and development center and complete the transition by August 2026.  FOX 5 Atlanta

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, metro Atlanta and North Georgia will host a variety of events including the ongoing MomoCon (May 22–25) featuring costuming, comics and games and the free Atlanta Jazz Festival at Piedmont Park starting May 24. Additional highlights include Keith Urban performing in Alpharetta today and the Alpharetta Arts Streetfest (May 24–25) showcasing live art and music.  FOX 5 Atlanta

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NOAA said conditions are ripe for an active hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin, forecasting 13 to 19 named storms, including 6 to 10 hurricanes and 3 to 5 major hurricanes, with the season starting June 1 and running through November 30. The agency warned that warmer ocean temperatures + human-caused climate change could boost storm strength and rainfall + increase flooding risks as communities recover from last year's damaging Hurricane Helene.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Gwinnett County health inspector uncovered critical violations at WNB Factory in Loganville—poor handwashing, unsafe food storage, and temperature issues caused a score of 62—and the manager said staff have been retrained and issues resolved. Meanwhile, Peace Love and Pizza in Alpharetta earned a perfect score of 100 and won the Golden Spatula Award for the third time while Applebee’s in Lawrenceville also improved to 100 on a reinspection.  Atlanta News First
