- ➤ Alpharetta will host the Wire and Wood Songwriters Festival on Oct. 10 and 11 with over 30 artists performing on six free outdoor stages and a ticketed Listening Room at Roaring Social — British new wave band Wang Chung will play hits like 'Everybody Have Fun Tonight.' - ➤ The North Fulton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority launched the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy last weekend to help girls 11 to 14 reach their dreams through math, science, community service and leadership activities + fun field trips. The academy will meet once a month from September to next June and is named after Dr. Betty Shabazz, the nurse and educator who was the widow of Malcolm X. FOX 5 Atlanta

- ➤ The federal exemption that lets alternative fuel vehicles use HOV lanes without a second passenger expires on Sept. 29, GDOT said. EV and hybrid drivers must ride with another person — or face toll charges on I‑85 HOT lanes — as the new rules take effect on Sept. 30. WSB-TV
- ➤ Residents in Alpharetta can file paperwork and pay a fee to qualify for City Council Posts 1, 2, and 3 from Aug. 18 to 20 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. with a fee of $450—other Fulton County cities have their own dates, times, and fees for municipal election qualification. Appen Media
