COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 100 veterans are gathering today at a North Georgia golf course for the annual Veterans Day Charity Classic hosted by Bear’s Best Atlanta — they are playing in friendly competition to raise funds for fellow veterans statewide. A freeze warning is in effect from 7:00 p.m. Monday until 10:00 a.m. today across multiple counties.  FOX 5 Atlanta

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Peach Jam Festival celebrates culture and unity, with local organizers planning to bring community members together—details on the event schedule and activities have not yet been released.  Atlanta News First

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Nov. 9, 11 volunteers from DSNDP collected 165 pounds of trash in Milton during a cleanup drive with the City of Milton’s Environmental Program Management—this event is part of the nonprofit's ongoing work to keep the area clean.  WSB-TV
  • Drivers in metro Atlanta are advised to slow down as deer become more active during the breeding season, especially at dawn and dusk. Studies show that some counties peaked from Nov. 3 to 9 while counties including Fulton are expected to peak from Nov. 10 to 16 — the season will continue into December.  WSB-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Drake Baldwin—the Braves catcher—was named NL Rookie of the Year on Monday by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America after he stepped in for injured Sean Murphy and posted strong numbers in May. He received 21 of 30 first-place votes and becomes the first Braves catcher to win the honor since Earl Williams in 1971.  Atlanta News First
